BIKE MONTH EVENT SCHEDULE

 

Every Sunday  7:15 a.m. HBC Sunday Morning Sociable Meet on City Island in the parking lot near the Walnut Street Bridge for a casual 8-10 mile ride, followed by optional breakfast at Roxy’s Café, 274 North Street, HBG. Helmets required.

 

Every Sunday May 7 – May 28

1:00 p.m.  Capital Area Greenbelt Ride

This 18 mile ride starts on the Greenbelt behind the City Line Diner, 3302 Derry Street, HBG. The pace is very casual. We’ll show points of interest along the way, such as SAMBA’s new mountain bike trails. Helmets required.

 

Friday, May 5 – Time & Place TBD

Harrisburg Bike Party’s Cinco de Mayo Ride! Let the good times roll during this downtown party on wheels. Location and time TBA. Bike Parties are held the first Friday of each month. “Like” Harrisburg Bike Party on Facebook for updates.

 

Sat. May 6 – Scavenger Hunt

Riders/Teams will meet at the Underground Bike Shop, 1519 N. 3rd St. at 9:45 a.m. to be given the list of HBG landmarks to find. Riders will take photos to verify they have been to each landmark and return prior to12:00 noon.

 

Wed. May 10 – Spoke ‘n Gear Bicycle Expo

10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Field across from the Capital Fountain). (Rain location: Commonwealth Keystone Building) There’s something for everyone at the Capital Area Spoke ‘n Gear Bicycle Expo! Learn about bicycle gear and fashion, bike travel, how to use the CAT bus bike racks and more. Register your bike at the Recycle Bicycle booth to improve your chance of recovering it if it becomes lost or stolen.

 

 

Sat. May 13Allison Hill Multi-Cultural Festival & Bike repair Meet at 13th & Derry. Parade at 1:00 PM and decorated bikes are welcome to join in. Free bike repair 2:00-4:00 p.m.

 

Mon. May 15 – Rally at 10:00 a.m.

Ride your bike into Harrisburg and meet by the Capitol steps on 3rd Street. Join government, business, and community leaders for this rally and press event which will highlight efforts to make our area more bike friendly.

 

 

May 15-21 – Bike to Work Week – Ride your bike to work. It’s a wonderful way to get exercise and go green. Log your commute for the week and be entered to win a Bicycle Prize Pack valued at over $50.00!  Find out more at www.pacommuterservices.org

 

Wed. May 17 – Ghost Bikes at the Capitol Visit this display on the Capitol Steps of white Ghost Bikes representing bicycle fatalities in PA.

 

Wed. May 176:30 pm   International Ride of Silence

The Ride of Silence will begin at the Camp Hill Borough Hall, 2145 Walnut Street, Camp Hill. It’s part of a worldwide event to remember bicyclists who have been injured or killed. Approx. 8-10 miles at a slow pace. Helmets required.

 

Fri., May 19– 6:15 p.m. HBC Friday Night Social Ride Meet at the HACC Midtown parking lot on Reilly St. between 3rd and 4th Street for this 15-20 mile ride on paved sections of the Capital Area Greenbelt and quiet city streets. The pace will be leisurely, about 10-12 mph, followed by dinner. Helmets required. We’ll enjoy the Food Truck Festival after the ride. It’s also 3rd in the Burg, so many stores and attractions are open late. Check them out after dinner.

 

Sat. May 20 – Bike Repair, Learn to Ride, and Bike Advocacy at the Broad Street Market, 3rd. Street.

10:00 AM – 2:00 p.m. One stop shopping for all your bike and culinary wishes! Recycle Bicycle will provide bikes and instruction for new riders of all ages.

 

Sat. May 20 – 10:00 am/1:30 pm  “Highlights of HBG” Bike Tour

New routes for 2017! Meet at the east end of the Walnut Street Bridge, near Front Street. The 10:00 tour and the 1:30 tour are each 2 hours long and each is 10-15 miles.  There will be a lunch stop at the Broad Street Market in between tours. Riders can opt to do one section or both. Helmets required.

 

Sun. May 21 – Seersucker & Lace Benefit Bicycle Ride 1:00 p.m. Think of this as a fashion show on wheels. Dress in your best vintage spring outfits. Kids must wear helmets and all traffic laws are to be obeyed. Meet on Riverfront Park under the railroad bridge just north of the Passage to India Restaurant at 12:00 pm for pictures. Block party near Rubicon’s on North Street following the ride!

 

May 27-29 The Harrisburg Arts Festival will have free valet bicycle parking on the north and south ends of the festival, courtesy of Recycle Bicycle.  Bike to the festival and

save $!

 

Sun., June 4 – Art of the Bike Show

Exhibitors wanted! Display your bike art at the Tour de Belt. All types of art are welcome…sculpture, photography, painting, etc. All entries must be bike themed. Art can be made from bike parts or can use bicycling as subject matter. Be creative! Contact Jenifer jjdtad@comcast.net

10:45 a.m. Mountain Bike Rides on the Susquehanna Area Mountain Bike Assoc. Parkway Trail.  Rides start at 11:00 a.m. at the Derry St gate behind the City Line Diner: 3302 Derry St. More details and updates will be posted on SAMBA’S Facebook page one week prior.

 

5:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.  Five Bridges Ride   HACC Midtown There’s no better way to see the city than from the top of a bridge! Free parking in the HACC lot on Reily St. between 3rd and 4th Streets. Sponsored by Bike Harrisburg and Recycle Bicycle.

 

7:30 p.m. – Bike Night at the Movies at Midtown Cinema, 250 Reily St. 

“The Long Bike Back” is a documentary about Pearson Constantino, who suffered a debilitating injury when he was hit from behind by a SUV while cycling. We’ll follow his recovery and his exciting ride across America with his brother, Pete. Sun. June 4

9:30 am  Tour de Belt, HACC Harrisburg

Have a great time on your bike while supporting the Capital Area Greenbelt. Volunteers are placed along the 18 mile route to cheerfully provide encouragement, directions and refreshments to all riders. Get a team of riders together to have more fun and provide a greater level of support for this valuable community resource. Pre-registered riders get a free commemorative t-shirt!
